Why choose High-Strength Aluminium Alloys ?
There is currently a great deal of interest and effort put into researching aluminium alloys, as their superior strength-to-weight ratio, recyclability and excellent mechanical properties, including durability, make them very attractive and promising candidates for a wide range of applications such as in the maritime, aerospace, automotive and other industries. To underline this fact, the aluminium industry in Europe (EU28 + EFTA) had a turnover of about 40 Billion and 2.1 Billion investments in 2018. To this end, our team has developed a novel ultra-high strength aluminium alloy reinforced with quasicrystalline particles, which are formed in-situ during solidification. The ultimate strength of the novel alloy is about 20% higher than that of the commercial high-strength aluminium alloy EN AW 7075 in the heat-treated T6 state. The new alloy is fully recyclable and can be produced using existing cost-effective technology. Due to its high mechanical properties, it contributes directly to weight reduction and reduces resource consumption. Indirectly, it also contributes to a cleaner environment, as a lighter vehicle is always more efficient, regardless of whether it runs on petrol, diesel or electric power. [www.european-aluminium.eu]
